The Education Book Trade Fair
"Edukacja XXI" is the largest educational exhibition in
Poland. Since 1998, "Edukacja XXI" has boasted the Honorary
Patronage of the President of Poland and was the first book fair
to receive such patronage.
Apart from exhibiting a variety of textbooks for all types and levels
of schools, the "Edukacja XXI" fair aims at developing
the habit of reading among young people and promoting literature
for children and teenagers.
Next to traditional forms of promotion, such as meetings with authors
and illustrators, "Edukacja XXI" co-ordinates a number
of projects and events that encourage and enable children's contacts
with books. Some of the projects are:
- "Wydajemy własną książkę" ("We publish our own
book") - a competition for the best book written, illustrated
and produced by children. This year the competition will be organised
for the tenth time. The books by children reflect their rich imagination,
use unconventional editing ideas and surprise readers with colourful
forms and meanings. They always attract a lot of interest at the
fairs. A selection of the winning books was presented at the 2000
Frankfurt Book Fair. This year we are very pleased to exhibit them
again in Bolonia with the help of Wojewódzka Biblioteka Pedagogiczna
(The Pedagogical Library) from Warsaw.
- A painting competition co-organised by Krajowe Stowarzyszenie
Pomocy Szkole (National Society for the Promotion of Education)
- the competition calls for illustrations for children's favourite
books; the winning works are shown at our fairs, used as illustrations
in books and exhibited in children's hospitals.
Every year since 1994 we have awarded our prize "Nagroda Edukacja"
(Education Prize) in ten different categories to books with outstanding
educational and editorial qualities.
In recent years the "Edukacja XXI" book fairs have promoted
not only Polish books but also publications from Lithuania, Ukraine,
Germany, Russia, Sweden and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
Our annual Days of Polish Books in Stockholm will celebrate its
tenth anniversary this year. "Edukacja XXI" is also a
co-organiser of seminars on childrens literature, exhibitions of
book illustrations and many other promotional events.
We are an active partner in the Literary Canon for Children and
Teenagers project initiated by the Polish Chamber of Books.
